Chapter 1.  January 10^th, 1988. 

Alvin waited impatiently in the cubicle, its grey upholstered walls making him feel a little claustrophobic.  He felt anxious about his appointment at the Federal Bank, never one for environments home to the modern business venture.  He surveyed the room, looking for personal articles to serve as conversation pieces with the loans officer assigned to him.  The receptionist had told Alvin that he would meet with “Bradley,” one of the branch’s younger staff, which was a bit of a disappointment.  Alvin felt he deserved better.
